First of all, a little bit about our animation exhibition held early in the semester:
After planning and fundraising in semester 1, we held our exhibition "Shorts" this year from 27th February to the 5th March in Whitespace. We put lots of effort into promoting our exhibition with posters, a Facebook page, bake sale, and animated trailers. We set up our own Vimeo page and released teaser trailers in the 12 days leading up to the exhibition. As a collective we named ourselves '12th House' (for 12 animators!). Here is the trailer I made;
10 days to go! from Shorts Exhibition on Vimeo.
For the exhibition, we all contributed a variety of our films which were compiled together to make a film of about one hour long. We used a lot of our very short '10 Films 10 Days' films as well as some new work. There were several screenings of this film on the opening night, and then played it on a loop during the week. Around the exhibition space, we also all had our own section where we displayed some physical work (drawings or 3D pieces) and a board each with a short bio.
Organising "Shorts" was a valuable experience - I certainly realised how much work is actually needed for planning an event like this! It was also a good chance to collaborate with our fellow students and bring together the diversity of our work we create.
There was an opening night on the 27th where we invited fellow students and industry professionals. The opening night was a success with a fantastic turnout and great responses to the films! It was a great night and was good to see so much support for the exhibition.
